In a previous life I was a Dental Hygienist, a career that was rewarding in its own ways, but one that didn’t feed my soul. After a couple of major health challenges, I finally listened to what the universe was telling me and left my profession to focus on what makes me come alive. A huge and scary jump and one that would have been much harder without my super supportive husband.
I come from a long line of artistic women and men, although a lot of them didn’t realize how talented they were! I sewed my first piece when I was 9 years old, on my Mom’s Singer ‘Featherweight’ sewing machine, which she bought used in 1950. I still use it. If you drop by the shop, there’s a good chance you will see it in action. Crafting became my hobby, it’s now one of my favourite artistic pursuits. It took a long time for me to call myself an ‘artist’, but I firmly believe that art exists in just about everyone, whether you’re a painter, a gardener, a carpenter, a passionate cook or a crafter ; )
After raising our children in Colwood, we moved to the Cowichan Valley in 2018. I had vague ideas for a studio space on the property, in an unfinished building. And also the feeling that there was more to come.
The idea for ‘Three Trees Artisan Gifts & Goodness’ came to me on one of my many meditative dog walks up Cobble Hill Mountain. When I shared the idea with my friends and family, I got unanimous encouragement. Then the hard work started! After a few months of renovations, I invited about a dozen artists to join me in this venture, and the rest, as they say, is history. With 34 + artisans, we’ve created a vibrant showcase for local talent.
Sharing this space with all these incredibly talented people makes me happy and grateful everyday. Five years in the making, Three Trees Artisan was born, the result of walking down a winding path to finding my passion.
